Established by Vincente Alvarez-Villamil in 1923, he named it Bernabeleva or "bear’s forest" as at the time the area was rich "with ancient bears carved from boulders to mark forests dedicated to the hunt goddess."  The Spanish Civil War ended his winemaking dreams, but in 2006, two of Vincente’s great-grandchildren vowed to fulfill their ancestor’s dream. The estate’s Garnacha vineyards were by then 80 years old, and the cousins set out to make wine that spoke to the purity and harmony of the land. The "Camino" bottling is blended from the estate's vineyards, aged in large, neutral barrels. Light, bright and brimming with charming character.

Elegant example of Garnacha.  Multi-layered, nuanced and generally really exciting - fresh, yet made with old vines.  Intense floral bouquet, with aromas of strawberry, raspberry, rose, magnolia and Asian spices.

Elegant, vibrant, aromatic; Multi-layered, nuanced, smooth. Strawberry, raspberry, rose, magnolia and Asian spices. .

These special, sandy high elevation soils in the Gredos Mountains west of Madrid along with the Bernabeleva’s old-school, minimal intervention winemaking results in a brilliant and pure expression of the old vines.

Vincente Alvarez-Villamil purchased the family’s estate land in 1923, planting Garnacha. But not until 2006 did his great-grandchildren, start to fulfill his dream of making special garnacha with what was then already 80-year old vines.
