Elegant with notes of blackberry, fig, black fruits, garrigue, blackcurrant, leather and stony minerality. 80% Grenache with 20% Syrah from their Estate vineyard, "La Ponce". The grapes are fermented in concrete tanks with the Syrah also aging in barrel. The Domaine is currently transitioning to Madeline, the 4th generation great-granddaughter of Jean-Louis FERRAN who first found their old farmhouse in 1953 set high in the hills of Rasteau AVA and started Domaine des Escaravailles. It is named after the Occitan word for beetle, the nickname given to the to the Black Penitents, monks of Avignon, who owned the farm in the 17th century.
