FROM FRENCH LIBATION:

"Freshness and iron-scented floral and fruity expression of violets
and licorice as well as perfectly ripe cherries, cranberries, black and
red currants and black berries. Pure, fresh and silky on the palate,
with delicate tannins and the gorgeously ripe and immaculate juice
of ripe black berries, cassis and cherries again"

The origins of the Château de Fosse-Sèche go back to the Middle Ages. The estate's vocation as a winegrower dates back to the time of the Benedictine order, which planted the first vines there over 800 years ago. A 16th century castle wall and wine vats dating to the Middle Ages can be found still on the estate.

Today, the domain is run by two passionate twin brothers Guillaume and Adrien Pire and their respective partners. It is in a family atmosphere that the two couples work and live at Fosse-Sèche since 2012 with a common goal: to share their passion for wine and nature. The family has owned the estate since 1998, moving from their vineyard in Madagascar and travelled through France in search of a place to settle, where respect for the fauna and flora is their priority.

The two brothers began the process of converting the estate to Biodynamic farming in 2013. The application of bio-dynamic principles allows the soil to be energized and thus promotes its fertility by making the vine plants more resistant. Fosse-Sèche has become a real ecosystem. They raise goats, have a resident apiarist, and are recognized for a national bird sanctuary; a place where all wildlife takes refuge.

With respect of the terroir, only 15 hectares are planted out of the 45 hectares estate; 8ha Cabernet Franc, 1ha Cabernet Sauvignon, 5.5ha Chenin Blanc and 0.5ha Chardonnay. Chateau Fosse Seche distinguishes themselves in Saumur for their unique terroir. Situated on the Brossay plateau, the vineyard is slightly convex and therefore provides a cool and windy exposure for the vines. That along with unique Jurassic flint & gravely clay soils, gives the Fosse Sèche wines a very particular, focused minerality.
