About

For Lukas and Roxanne Van Loggerenberg, everything in life is about camaraderie, about savoring moments with those closest. However, camaraderie is not only between friends but also between the farmer, workers in the vineyards and vines and about the final product being shared between friends over a good meal. This wine comes from the Lammershoek Vineyards, which is a picturesque winegrowing area in the Paardeberg, a stone’s throw from Cape Town. It is owned by Andreas Abold, originally from Germany and joint owner with long-time Swiss friend and businessman, Fedor Radmann, and they take growing their 74-year-old Chenin quite seriously. If there was ever a wine to savor with good people over a good meal, Kamaraderie is it.

The Van Loggerenberg whites all receive the same, signature treatment in the cellar. The parcels were hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed to stainless-steel and left to settle overnight. The wine is the racked to 3rd fill French oak demi-muids the next morning and the parcels were kept separate for fermentation and maturation. Fermentation occurred naturally and without any additions and malolactic fermentation was blocked via a naturally cooler temperature. The wine aged on its gross lees and with no bâtonnage. After nine months the wine was racked and Lukas made the final blend. It was settled in tank for an additional month and then bottled without fining or filtration and just a light sulfur addition.

Tasting Note

This has a rounded and quite sensual bouquet with lemon curd, white chocolate and almond scents, pistachio skin and really pronounced dusty, mineral tones. The palate is taught but well-balanced with a very refined opening, veins of lemon curd and barely ripe nectarines sitting in a basket of straw. The structure of the wine is akin to a bronze sculpture, malleable but still very firm. This wine has immense length, and almost a tannic tone, and will gracefully age for a decade or more.
